Join us for an exciting Metal Art class where creativity meets craftsmanship. In this hands-on session,
you’ll learn to cut a 12oz copper sheet and hammer into a tail, attach to a whimsically bent 8-gauge wire
to spin rhythmically in the wind. This class will also make a butterfly ornament. This class is perfect for those
interested in working with metal to create unique artistic pieces, whether you’re a beginner or looking to
refine your skills.
Supplies Students Need to Bring:
1. A sturdy pair of pliers (we will have a few available if needed)
2. Hair pulled back securely (preferably covered with a cotton cap, bandana, or similar)
3. Clothing: mostly cotton, long sleeves, and long pants (jeans recommended)
4. Closed-toed shoes (preferably sturdy and leather)
5. Gloves for handling hot pieces of copper
Safety Precautions & Instructions:
** Students must be at least 13 years old due to the use of potentially dangerous materials.
Attendance at the beginning of the class is required to review safety protocols, and no student will be
allowed to participate until this instruction is completed. Hair should be tied back and preferably
covered with a cotton cap or bandana for safety. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory, and clothing
should be primarily cotton to reduce fire risks; polyester fabrics should be avoided as they can melt
and worsen burns. Eye protection is required at all times; a limited number of safety glasses available,
they will be disinfected before. Gloves are recommended when handling hot metal and leather
aprons will be provided for welding safety. It’s important to note that burns can happen during the
process, and students accept full responsibility for their actions. Rest assured, all necessary
precautions will be taken to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment.
