This class is perfect for those interested in working with metal to create unique artistic pieces, whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn to cut a 12oz copper sheet and hammer into a butterfly and attach to a whimsically bent 8-gauge wire to spin rhythmically in the wind.
Supplies Students Need to Bring:
1. A sturdy pair of pliers (we will have a few available if needed)
2. Hair pulled back securely (preferably covered with a cotton cap, bandana, or similar)
3. Clothing: mostly cotton, long sleeves, and long pants (jeans recommended)
4. Closed-toed shoes (preferably sturdy and leather)
5. Gloves for handling hot pieces of copper
Safety Precautions & Instructions:
** Students must be at least 13 years old and attend the initial class for safety protocol review. Hair should be tied back and covered, closed-toed shoes are mandatory, and clothing should be primarily cotton to reduce fire risks. Eye protection is required; limited disinfected safety glasses will be available. Gloves are advised for hot metal handling, and leather aprons will be provided for welding. Students accept full responsibility for potential burns, and all precautions will be taken to ensure safety.
Beginner classes and/or prior welding experience are required for participation in any upcoming advanced classes.
