We were honored to have Laura Griffith as our special guest teacher on Sunday, July 15 for, “Wine, Whine & Design.” The Port Aransas Art Center provided all materials: a 16 x 20 inch canvas, brushes, paint and wine glasses. It was another, “BYOB” and snacks, and the Art Center provided the rest. This was a stress free, fun and creative event, and we painted a Redfish as our subject matter.

“It is my love for coastal life and its inherent beauty that is the foundation of my work and the process of creating art is my teacher, offering me knowledge and understanding of the elements around me. Each painting is a discerning journey in which my subjects reveal themselves to me. Colors, shapes, lines and textures are built using layer upon layer of color until the depth of color and detail equals the character of my subject. I am currently working with soft pastels. They consist of pure powdered natural pigments combined with a fine, soft white clay known as kaolin or China Clay. Their strength, purity and longevity allow me to render velvety images rich with color that will remain unchanged through generations.”
This event is also held at other times during the year. Check back for future dates (normally the third Sunday of the month).
