Learn how to create powerful pastels by focusing on strong value structure, color and composition. Explore different methods of under-painting and hand-textured surfaces in this two-day workshop. The initial portion of the class will be a review of various pastels and pastel paper qualities including hand textured surfaces. This will be followed with exploration of different methods of under painting prior to beginning desired images. Individual help at the easel will be provided throughout the day. Anna Lisa will demonstrate her methods with hand textured boards used in some of her award winning paintings.

Anna Lisa Leal
“The colors are unparalleled – pigments at their purest!” is how Anna Lisa describes pastels. She also calls pastels her adult crayons and has explored the medium voraciously from the moment she picked them up. Anna Lisa’s artwork embodies the resplendent patterns of nature and particularly botanicals. Anna Lisa is driven to create paintings which reflect nature’s captivating beauty and it is her artistic mission is to transport nature’s beautiful design to indoor living spaces. As a lifetime Texan, the various floral and animal inhabitants of the Southwest such as Big Bend, New Mexico and Arizona are frequent subjects of her work.
She has been in numerous national and international juried pastel exhibits and regularly exhibits in various juried art festivals in Texas. Anna Lisa is a member of the Pastel Society of America, Austin Pastel Society, Central Texas Pastel Society and Pastel Society of New Mexico.
