Michael Windberg grew up in the rural settings of Post Oak Savanna and the ranchlands of the central coastal plains of Texas. Mike was encouraged as an artist and art instructor by his father, Dalhart Windberg. Throughout his life, Dalhart has been Michael’s mentor and art master. Inspired by the landscape of his youth in South Texas and awed by the landscape of North America, landscape is Michael’s passion and the subject he chooses to paint.
One of the unique facts about Michael is that he grew up with a highly regarded professional artist. As a result, Michael became familiar with many artists and art students, many of whom are recognized artists and teachers today. In addition, while growing up Michael became familiar with selling art in galleries, at fairs, and during long weekend “sidewalk” art shows. Mike would be there with his father, packing in easels and paintings to various art show booths.
As early as eight years old, while not yet an artist, he could tell you about a compositional grid or how to mix a perfect black. “When I was growing up at home, painting, or the art business, were always the topic at the table.”
Mike continues to paint and teach oil painting workshops and classes at local art leagues and art centers across Texas and the South. Periodically he enjoys en plein air painting with his father, friends and students willing to suffer the outdoors and capture what mother nature has to offer.
This workshop involves instruction in the art of oil painting. It will be taught using the trusted methods and systems used by Michael Windberg’s father, Dalhart Windberg, over the course of thirty years.
Michael will work with art students all at skill levels, novice to expert! Painting demonstrations and lectures are centered on the themes noted above. Although workshops are instructed in oil painting techniques, students working in acrylics and pastel are also welcome. The lessons in composition, values, lighting and perspective are the same.
For this workshop, Michael will provide photographs for use by workshop participants. However, students are welcome to bring their own photographs. He will also have some art supplies with him that pertain to the Windberg Oil Painting Method.
