Jenifer Hartsfield

I was born in Houston, Texas.  I received a BFA in Art, Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas in 1957, a Master in Drama from the University of Houston in 1978 and recently have continued graduate art studies at Texas A&M, Corpus Christi in Printmaking.

My visual art is influenced by narrative and expressive arts of theatre, song and story. Evolving self-awareness is reflected in paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, artists’ books and 3D work.  I find creative work to be play of a serious kind.  Likewise, I find creative play to be work of a purposeful kind.

I am a founding member of Las Comadres,  A Professional Women Artist Group, participating in exhibitions throughout the state of Texas.  My work has been viewed in regional museums, such as the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, the Beeville Art Museum, Beeville, and The Nave Museum, Victoria.  I have also exhibited in educational venues such as The Cain Gallery at Del Mar College and The Weil Gallery at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.  I am a life member of The Art Center of Corpus Christi where my work is regularly exhibited.

My prints have been published in local as well as national journals such as The Other Journal, an online journal at the Intersection of Theology and Culture, Seattle WA and Women’s Journal, Brigid’s Place, Christ Church Cathedral, Houston, TX,   New Directions for Continuing Education, no.108 Winter,  Jossey-Bass, San Francisco.

Teaching and performing experiences include work with Young Audiences of Houston from 1976 through 1990, public and private schools in Austin, San Francisco, Houston and the Gulf Coast region.    Most recently in 2017-18 I have been a teaching artist at Mirador Senior Quality Lifestyle Community and K Space Contemporary.
