The Port Aransas Art Center hosts a variety of annual programs for youth, much of it wildlife inspired. Below are a few of our annual offerings. Be sure to check the event calendar in the margin of this website for new program listings! During any given year we serve approximately 600 children, and we hope to expand our offerings in the future.
H. G. Olsen Elementary School
The Port Aransas Art Center provides art education each year to H. G. Olsen Elementary School of the Port Aransas Independent School District, on Fridays. During 2018 and 2019, H-E-B’s Tournament of Champions funded art supplies.
These classes are taught by the “ABC Ladies,” Arlene Hughes and helpers Barbara Behrens and Rita Reed. Thanks, everyone!
Student Art Show and Reception
This annual exhibition features the work of 130 to 160 students in the Port Aransas Independent School District (grades 6 through 12), Flour Bluff Independent School District (middle and high schools), and Seashore Middle Academy. A reception with refreshments is held and prizes awarded, including a Grand Prize for Best Overall. The student art show is on view to the public for one full month.
Summer Youth Camps
During the summer months, the Port Aransas Art Center teams-up with area schools to host week-long art classes. Each class includes approximately 15 students and there is a registration fee (often discounts are available for more than one child per family). If you are interested in learning about our Summer Youth Camps, or if you are interested in helping defray the cost of student registration, art supply and other class costs, contact us. Please be watching our calendar on this website for future programs!
Annual PAISD Birding Art Exhibition
In February, the Port Aransas Art Center hosts an annual exhibition of Birding Art featuring work by students of the Port Aransas Independent School District. The Birding Art Exhibit is held in conjunction with the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau, which hosts the annual Whooping Crane Festival. Included is both individual art creation, and the painting of a large paper mural during a “painting party,” on the theme of the majestic Whooping Crane.
The Port Aransas Art Center would like to expand its programming for K-12 children, and to find sponsors of our existing activities. We would also like to find underwriters for professional art teacher stipends, and for field trips from the Art Center and Port Aransas to other area art organizations. If you are interested in learning more, use the secure contact form on this website to reach us. Thank you.
