This page provides a general overview of the kinds of art classes offered at the Port Aransas Art Center. Art classes for all ages are held year-round. “Drop-in” classes do not require advance registration. Prior to attending, give us a call to confirm the program is on schedule, and to inquire about other information that might be helpful. Fun With Acrylics
Mondays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Judith DeShong Hall teaches this beginner and intermediate level class. Students are asked to bring their acrylic supplies and something to paint on. The class will begin by reviewing design elements and principles pertinent to all art works. Bring your supplies, ideas and if possible, examples or photos of your work. The cost for this three hour class is $20 for Members, and $25 for non-members.
Drop In and Draw
Classes resume January 8
Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The first Tuesday of the month is portrait drawing if that is something you would like to do, or something else, if you don’t!
Pat Donohue teaches this class, which will help you learn to draw or to improve your skills. Students should bring drawing supplies (supply list is available at the front desk). The cost to register for this three hour class is $20 for Members and $25 for non-members.
Drop In Collage Exploration
Thursdays on the dates listed below during 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Kelly Schaub is our teacher. In this class, students will explore hand-cut paper and mixed media collage using a variety of techniques and materials. Using a sketchbook and magazine images, we will explore scale, color, composition, thematic work, texture, layers, and abstract collage. The cost is $20 for Members, $25 for non-members.
Bring a small sketchbook (recommended – mixed media sketchbook, approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches or 6 x 9 inches in size), scissors, a glue stick, and any magazines you have around. To learn about Kelly’s workshops for the Port Aransas Art Center in 2019, follow this link.

Nancy Buskey is the primary teacher of the watercolor class for beginning or intermediate students. Students will learn to paint or advance their painting skills. A supply list is available at the front desk. The Center has paints and brushes you can use to get started. The cost to register for this three hour class is $25 for Members, $30 for non-members.

Creating a Travel Memory Workshop
This six hour class is taught by Judith DeShong Hall. Refer to your personal travel photos, memories and souvenirs to create your masterpiece! Students will create a montage, a composition of memories, which will make a terrific gift for yourself or a friend. Examples of the kinds of supplies used include:
- Medium of choice: watercolor, oil or acrylic, colored pencil, etc.
- Support for medium: watercolor paper, canvas, claybord, etc. (choose from smaller sizes such as 6×8, 8×10, 9×12, 11×14)
- Sketch paper and a ruler/straight edge
- Travel photos and perhaps a souvenir or two.
Easy Coil Baskets
Create wonderful baskets with the coiling method. Various twine and yarns allow for a great variety of looks, including non traditional shapes. A variety of materials create unique baskets. Coiling projects can be carried and worked on anywhere. This two-day workshop is held for two hours each day. Easy Coil Baskets is taught by Judith Deshong Hall.
Lee Ricks‘ Two-Day Watercolor Workshop
Improve your skills or learn to watercolor with this fun and informative instructor! The two day workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each day, students will complete a watercolor painting of which they can to be proud.
